4. Go 7 Levels Deep

This is a difficult but worthwhile exercise for you to discover what is holding you back. You can print this off multiple times and use this process for any problems, issues or negative thoughts that are holding you back. Just make sure to be honest and do it properly.

What's holding you back?

Here is a short list of common issues that many people face and are maybe trying to deal with right now. This is where the 7 Levels Deep exercise might help so feel free to share this page with anyone you think may benefit:

Depression

In the video, I briefly talk about depression and I want to clear something up. When I speak about depression not being permanent, I fully understand that for some people it can be or at least seem like it. I have met enough people going through that pain in my life to know it can be incredibly difficult.


What I meant was that for me, I understood myself enough to know that my experience wasn't even close to clinical depression and like I said, I was more than likely just feeling super pi**sed off, worn out, worn down, tired and fed up.


A house move, a succession of family deaths followed by my wife's illness and my accident caused me to "shut down" for a short period. I couldn't concentrate on work and felt completely useless.

How did I know I could get through it alone?

At the absolute height of what was going on, I took a break. I packed my camera gear, my time lapse equipment and my drone and headed off by car to Montreux in Switzerland for a busman's holiday.


I am  huge fan of Deep Purple (think...Lake Geneva...Casino burning down...Smoke on the Water) and Queen. I wanted to see the town, the lake, Freddie Mercury's statue and then visit the Queen Studio Experience.


As soon as I got there, I felt the weight lift and my troubles literally disappear. Whether it was a case of "out of sight, out of mind" I don't know but what I did realise that it wasn't permanent for me. All I needed was time to work on and change my attitude and the way I handled things. Here is a quick video I made from that trip.

You never know when something like this might disrupt your life. It can happen at any time and come completely out of the blue. Having any sort of automated, residual online income when the sh*t hits the fan is a God-send.

Results

When you have completed the form and have your "results", sit and think about what they mean.


For me, I hit a spot in the 7 levels where I thought about my father and how he hadn't played a huge part in my life. I always blamed him for everything...blame, blame, blame. I had also become quite short with my own kids throughout all of the above and that bothered me.


However! The difference now is night and day. Once I self-admistered some tough love and gave myself a "good talking to", I stopped blaming and started changing.


Since then, I have had the most lengthy, funny and sometimes incredibly deep conversations with my father. He has opened up a lot about the past and I think he felt guilty about everything and that was perhaps why there was a lack of attention and contact with myself and my brother.

I have also made sure to be extra attentive with my kids again, like I used to, and our family is now stronger and closer than ever.

I am not normally the type to share or talk about this stuff with strangers but I wanted to encourage you to do the same. It is very cathartic. Once you know your problems, fears and doubts, look inside yourself, find a way to deal with it and take action but take your time.


Whatever it is that you want to do, plan it out, take a deep breath and go for it. One life. Live it.
